1st legal Ling of the season

Aug 28 '07, And my sons first day back in school, WOOHOO! So I hit the South Jetti at 10:30ish on the incomin tide. I started at marker 34 again and met with a dude who owns a tackle shop in Weaverville that I have met before while we got snowed in in Weaverville on our way back from Red Bluff.  We chatted for a minute about meetin b4 and he was asking about how I was rigged up. I showed him and he rigged up the same and we were fishin. He got slammed and had a nice fighter, but after a few seconds it spit the hook. He re-rigged and soon got broke off in the rocks and then said somethin about going to 'get some heavier gear and he'd be back again'. I kept moving down and had a real nice bite that I totally flubbed up and missed. I had to leave at 2 and it was gettin past 1 so I started shortening my cast stops and movin faster down the rocks. Right in between marker 29 and 28 I got a nice little tap on my line, I set the hook and felt it was a good fish. It put up a nice fight with quite a few bursts and runs. I brought it up and saw a nice Ling. I got it on a rock for a quick measure and it was right at 24", so I took it off the rocks for a better measure. It still measured 24" so I cut it and went back over the rocks. I fished until 1:45 and figured I had just enough time to get home, gut the Ling and be at my kids school by 2:50. I was just a little late.
