North Wall, 2-15-08

Headed out to the wall at 1:20pm hoping to work the minus tide at 1:30pm with my poke-pole, but the swells were a little too big for my tastes.  After 30 minutes of pokin, I just wasn't feelin it.  Luckily I'd brought along my conventional gear as a back-up, so I set up near a small rocky point on the wall.

Water was murky, so I decided against throwing plastics and threw out some shrimp on a dropper loop.  Things started out slow, with a few bites here and there, but then a flurry of action came at around 2:30pm.  I hooked up with 2 blacks to 11", 2 kelp greenling to 15", and 1 pileperch taping out at 14".  Also caught a big starfish and a rock crab for good measure, heh.  Things slowed down by 4pm, so I filleted the 15" greenling and headed home.  Besides the iffy swells, the weather couldn't have been better for Humboldt in February: clear skies, little wind, and t-shirt temps.  It was a great day to go out and relax on the rocks.

I got your voice mail that day but for some reason my phone didn't ring or pick up your number.
Good job bro!
