April 03 '08, South Jetti, April 04 '08, North Jetti, Humboldt

My step brother came up to visit for a couple of days and wanted to do some rockfishin. Thursday we hit the South Jetti at about 10 am. The tide was high and the water was a little swelly but there were no currents so my lures would stay where I wanted them. We were throwing different soft plastics texas rigged. My brother hooked up pretty quick and brought up a nice Black Rockfish. It was about 10:30 and we were quite a ways out the jetti when Clayman rolled up and started fishin with us. I got the next bite and stuck a nice 3 1/2# Black Rocky. Clayman got a Brown and I got another nice Black. I hooked up on a 20", 4 lb 4 oz Cabezon next and then Clayman hooks a 18" Cabezon not too long after. I got a good hit and brought up a nice Ling that slipped off at the surface run. I was bummed and kept puttin it in the same place. A couple minutes later I missed a good hit but tried again. This time I stuck it good! I brought up the same Ling as before. It measured 24 1/2" so I cut it and went back to work. After that we weren't stickin any more hits, although we were gettin plenty of them. 2:30 came around too soon and we had to bail. We left Clayman there and I was jealous about it. I knew there were plenty more fish to be caught and Clayman told me about some of them later.

Friday we hit the North Jetti about 11 am to another high tide and pretty calm waters. We headed out to the tip and started workin both the Ocean side and the mouth side. It didn't feel too promising but it was a nice day to be out there. I hooked up on another Ling but it was 1" too short and lived to fight another day. That was it and we split at 1 to get some Stars Hamburgers for lunch. Stars is dank!

Yup, after you guys left I kept at it and pulled up plenty of fish, including another 18" cab and a beastly 21" cab.  Also hit a 23" ling and some various rockfish.  According to the NOAA forecast, conditions should be great for jetty fishing until Monday when the swells reach 8-10 feet.  Hopefully I can get in one more trip this weekend before the surf gets big.  So far this has been a great season.

BTW, Stars is dank!biggrin

On the way home after watching a ballet performance, the kindergarten teacher asked her students what they thought of it. The smallest girl in the class said she wished the dancers were taller so that they would not have to stand on their toes all the time.
