My brother had to leave today but he was determined to get his big Ling before he left. We hit the South at about 11 and it was a nice, perfect day! We headed out to the dolos at the very end. I quickly scored a nice Cabezon I guessed aroud 16". It would have been legal but I released it in hopes of a bigger. A couple of cast later bigger happened. A good fight, which Cabs usually are, and up came a fat 18"er. I released it too cause we had just started our day and I was hoping for even bigger since you only get one Cab a day. After a little with no more bites we moved down a bit. My brother found a school of little Black Rockfish. He was hookin up every cast on a 5" Senko texas rigged w/ 1/2 oz. They didn't want my bigger 7" Senko so I moved past him. I hooked up on a nice fat female Greenling which I released. We didn't get any more hits for quite some time. We were at the parking lot area about 3 oclock and I hooked up on another little Black,released. The very next cast in the same place I hooked up on a little Copper that I released also. A little down from there I got slammed by something heavy. I brought up a fat Cabezon that started freakin out on the surface. It just rolled and rolled itself up in my line, I was afraid it was going to break off. My bro came and gaffed it in the lip. There was a DFG warden and a fish counter right there. They were cool and the counter measured and weighed it for me. It was just over 20" and 6 1/2#. I cut it and kept working down. I hooked up on 3 more little Blacks before we called it at about 5.

Great report - but needs more photos!  biggrin  I was at the South Jetty that day with my family.  I fished briefly near the parking lot as I'd scored some little blacks (C&R) a few evenings previous to that.  We ended up barbecueing a tri-tip and playing in the waves on the beach - that was a hell of a day!  70 on the beach. 

I like this board - cool stuff.  I mostly kayak fish.

Right on Abking. Welcome to the board!
I got a kayak a while ago but I haven't been out on it too much. I want to go more often but I don't know anyone else who yaks. Can't wait to read some of your reports and thanks for registering!
P.S. here is a pic of my yak. It is a 10 ft pontoon kayak w a trolling motor mount on the back. I have a motor for it but I am waiting to rig a throttle and steering control. When I get that I think I will be out in it a lot more.

I remember seeing your boat in an NCKA post.

Where's that reef in your avatar?  Reminds me of some good rockfishing spots I have over near Petrolia.

You caught a bad-ass photo of something that someone like me appreciates to the nth degree, my Man!  That's something.  I love the opportunities over there from little inlets and channels like that - you might get skunked, but you might also leave with an old-growth cab of 10 pounds or more.  biggrin  I've pulled that off quite a few times over there.  smile
