This was kinda a wierd day. I hit the North Jetti at 11:45 with only 2 hours before I had to leave to pick the kid up from school on time. I started gettin good bites right away, but couldn't get'm to stick. It was strange cause they were really tuggin on the line, but they were quick and I don't know if they were just smackin the lure or bitin it and spittin it real fast. I got my first solid hook up at 12:20, at least I thought it was solid. I fought this fish for a little bit with drag runs and head shakes that told me it was a good fish. I was thinkin Cabezon, but I never saw it. It got under a rock and my lure just came out and I reeled up a chewed up plastic worm. This happend 2 more times with various other missed fish in between, although none were as powerful as the first. In the middle of this chaos I did stick and land 4 Black Rockfish, released. 3 were about 12-14" and the little one pictured was about 10" and it was my last. I headed back to truck at 1:45 with time to go unpack the fishin gear, load up the dogs and be at my kids school on time. I'm gettin better with the timing.
I've met a lot of jetty anglers who think the north jetty is better fishing than the south, in fact I think most anglers believe that, but I'm not convinced. I've put in some serious time fishing that jetty all the way from marker 10 to the dolos, and all I seem to catch are greenling and mostly short cabezon. There's so many greenling out at the dolos they might as well name it the Greenling Capital of the World. Sure, I've pulled in a few legal cabbies and a few legal lings from the north, but I think on a daily basis the south beats it.
