Hit the Trinity this morning near Hawkin's Bar. Got some intel that steelhead are in the lower river and are hitting spinners. I threw 2 different Blue Fox - size 2 and 3 from 6:30-9:30 this morning. Caught 5 fingerlings and saw about 3 big fish.
Blue Fox are cool and all, but Panther Martins will always take the cake in my book when it comes to steelhead. They sink faster than Blue Fox and can work just above the bottom for a longer time, right where the steelies are laying. I haven't fished the Trinity too much, but I have fished the Klamath below Wietchpec a few times and I would KILL the steelies with Panther Martins. They were especially deadly on the halfpounders, but also worked real well on the adults.
Size 6, 9, and 15 will all work depending on how fast the water is moving and how deep you need to get, ie use the 6 in the shallow water and the 15 in the deep runs and pools.
