When I took the dogs for their walk in the mornin it was very calm, no wind, no waves. I had the afternoon to hit the jetti, so that was the plan. I got to the South a little after 1 and the conditions sure did change. There was a very chilly east blowin wind that created some rough water. The wind was enough to seriously mess with workin a lure accurately. My buddy and his brother met me out there a little after I arrived. We were workin the 30s (markers) and down to the 20s with barely a bite. I had one missed bite that was very hard to feel as I was bringin my worm over a rock covered with thick kelp. My buddy grabbed a nice little Copper right in front of the rock he was standin on and that was the only fish of the day. I had put on a 1 oz mojo slider sinker to try and compensate for the wind, but I quickly changed back to 1/2 oz cause it didn't really do much difference other than increase my chances of snaggin. My buddies left at 5:30 and I continued, but headed out deep. The deeper I went the rougher the water became, so I turned back at the mid 50s and decided to work the mid 40s. I had a couple more missed bites, one Ling for sure as I inspected the deep slashes in my lure. I had to split by 8, but 7:30 felt good enough and I went to pick up my girlfriend from work. What a bummer.
The wind was NASTY yesterday! I was thinking of hitting the inner bay for sharks in the evening but the swaying of the trees around my house made me scrap that idea. This weekend's calling for more wind, but the swell should be a little calmer so it might be fishable on the inside of the jetties. I figured it was looking sloppy out there, but at least you got out there and gave it a go...all I did was sit around and watch football all day .
