Sept 30 '07, South Jetti, Humboldt

I would have met Clayman at the North but changed my mind not to go that direction at the last minute. I even stopped at the 'park and ride' to take a good look at both of the jetties. I didn't know he was out there or else I would have went, sorry I missed ya bro.
Anyway, besided that, boy did I go the wrong way, I'll get to more of that later. I hit the South at 3ish with the high tide gettin ready to turn. I started around marker 33 and picked up a nice little Black pretty quick. It was right around 12" but it was real skinny and I decided to turn it back. Kept workin down and right around 4 o'clock at marker 30 I got slammed! I set the hook and there was no delay, that thing was runnin. It was so strong and easily the fastest thing I have ever seen I didn't know what to think of it, is it a Batray, huge shark, the worlds best Cabezon, I DON'T KNOW? No joke, it was goin right along the rocks, just screamin in one direction and then the next, goin out and comin back. When it wanted to go there was no stoppin it. My thumb started to burn a couple of times and it spooled my about 3 times, finaly breakin me off on the 3rd insane, crazy run. I swear it felt like the crazyness lasted for about 3 minutes. I was movin over those rocks, a couple times fearin I was gunna get pulled in. This thing was so powerfull and so fast and it didn't feel like anythin I have ever held on to before. After I reeled in my broken line and began to try and figure out what just happend, a harbor seal popped its head out of the water not too far in front of me with a look on its face probably as confused as the look on my faceconfused. I think we both looked at each other and figured it out pretty quickly. I hope it is laughin about now too and not still tryin to pull a hook out of its mouth. It bit a 6" Cabelas Aquaglow jerk minnow, what a trip. I figured that was the lure to go with and tied on another. I kept workin down and got another good bite but, I couldn't set the hook cause I forgot to reset my drag after I loosened it while that sea dog was spoolin me so many times! It felt like a good hit too but that'll teach ya. I worked down to marker 27 without any more bites. It was 6:30 and I had to leave by 7 so I decided to try by the truck until I had to go. I picked up a little Black just to the left of the truck. It was about 8", released it and moved a little in the other direction from the truck. I picked up 2 more Blacks from the same rock, a 13" that I kept and another shorty around 10", released. That last 10" was caught just before 7 o'clock on my second to last cast and I ended it there. I wonder what would have happened if I went in the other direction from the start?

Haha!  I bet that seal gave up one hell of a fight!  You got skillz being able to hold onto that beast for more than a couple minutes.  Need some serious rockhopping abilities and fish...er...seal fighting abilities biggrin.  Nice job on the blacks, at least you got some fillets.  I continued my reign as the Sublegal King with the cabezon and ling from the north.
