Oct 02 '07, North Jetti, Humboldt

Some more unfortunate circumstance kept me from fishin the mornin but by 12pm I was headed home to grab my stuff and be on my way to the South Jetti. The plan was changed by a phone call from my girlfriend askin me to bring a pair of shoes to her work. I thought 'that's fine, I'll just head to the North Jetti from there'. I got to the North a little before 1 and the conditions looked pretty good, no big swells and the tide was comin in. I saw a Stellar Sea Lion cruisin for the mouth and back out to sea, man they're huge! I started pitchin a worm around marker 10 and workin down towards the Coast Guard Station. The water started to get pretty swelly and the incomin current was gettin pretty strong. I looked at the South Jetti and it looked beautiful, totally calm cry. The tide was gettin high enough that water was comin in on the sand side of the rocks. I didn't think much of it at first and kept workin down. Around 2pm I started to notice that there was no place to walk without gettin a little wet. I decided to call TheEmptyBucket and see if he could look up the tides and tell me how much longer it was comin in. I don't check'm anymore, I just fish when I can. He said the tides were still comin in for a couple of hours. I didn't want to get caught in a situation like Clayman where I had to wade out waist deep. Normally I would have thought that was fun but I had to pick up the kid at 5 and the GF after that and then still go do some stuff and it didn't sound fun bein wet for all that. I had to hop some rocks and get ankle deep but I was wearin neoprene socks and luckily they were tall enough that my feet didn't get wet. I think next time I go to the North on an incomin tide, I will take the waders.
I still had a couple of hours to waste so I decided to hit up some miscellaneous rocks on the way out. The first was a rock wall that connected to the Coast Guard Station. It reminded me of King Salmon being an artificial reef, with a decent current and pretty shallow water. I fished there for maybe 30-45 mins and then headed to some rocks that were on the other side of the C G S. The water was even shallower and I hung out there for only about 15 minutes before deciding to leave that skunk.
I'll be back, with some waders.
