Had to run some errands in southern Eureka today, so I figured I might as well make a run to the south jetty for a couple hours. Got out there and fishing at 2pm on the incoming tide. Water was surprisingly clear for this time of year, bout 4 feet of vis. Some guys fishing near the parking area were scoring on black rockfish, so I tied up a salty twintail shad in watermelon/chartreuse with a 3/8 oz bullet weight and started jigging about 3/4 out on the jetty. Worked my way down the jetty for a total of 2 blacks (12" and 15"), 1 kelp greenling (10"), and 1 lingcod (22"). Kept the two blacks for din-din. Once I got back to my truck, I kept eyeing a big hole in the rocks nearby and decided "Aw, what the hell." Busted out my poke-pole with squid and probed down into the cave. Two seconds later I pulled out a chunky 12" copper rockfish, released. I was surprised to see the poke-pole actually work during a high tide.
Overall, it was a nice day to get out. No pics this time unfortunately, the camera batteries died on me.
