I got an e-mail from a buddy sayin he was in town and was gunna be at the South the next morning. He said he didn't have long, so I said I'd try to meet him there. I think I drove past him on the way out, oops sorry I missed ya dragonfly. I got out there at 11:30 and was planning to leave at 2 to get the kid from school. Rigged my main rod with a 1/2 oz finesse slider sinker, red bead, 4/0 worm hook and a green/chart. tail soft jerk bait. I went down to marker 28 and started there. It was a real high tide on the out go, not too fast and pretty calm. Around 12:45 I got a nice thump on the line and set the hook. After a pretty spirited fight with no drag pulls, I pulled up a little 18" Lingcod, released. Kept workin up in marker numbers and around 1:15 I stuck a little Black Rockfish, released. I threw my back up rod rigged with a bass spinner, but salt water is deadly on the performance of spinners and I quickly changed to a creature lure on a weedless jig. I managed to get a good tug on that but couldn't stick it. Around 1:45 I was dippin the jerk in some holes and pulled up a chunky Cabezon that I had to measure. After a disapointing measure of 14" it was released. At 2 I thought it was going to be my last cast. I got thumped and set the hook into a nice 14" Black Rocky that I kept for dinner tomorrow. After that I had to cast some more. No more casts were touched and I left at around 2:20 and got the kid on time.
