A buddy and I hit the Humboldt Bay South Jetti Saturday and Sunday. Saturday was pretty nice out and the water was wasn't too rough. It was a little swelly and the current was running but we could still work a lure pretty good. Both days had quite a few other people with more lure fishing than bait chucking. No hook ups though, from anyone. I didn't see a single fish or feel a bite! We went from the deep to the shallows. After 3 hours we could'nt take anymore skunkin and we took off around 5. Sunday we got there a little earlier at 1. The weather was the same but the water was a little calmer. A few more people fishing too but still no fish in the buckets. We started out deep again in the mid 60's but the calmer water around the bend drew us that way quick. We kept workin down shallower into the 30's. It was about 2:45 around marker 30 when my line got heavy. After an enthusiastic hook set the angry head shakes began. It was a good heavy fighter with quite a few runs. I was thinking Cabezon but it wasn't that explosive so I wasn't sure. Finally up came a pretty nice Lingcod. It measured 22 and back it went. We kept workin for a couple hours after that but nothin else was happening. We split around 5 again.
